Applying for Indian visas is hassle free. If you live in London or head up there regularly, you can do so in person - the building is quite atmospheric and adds to the pre-trip excitement! Visas are issued on the same day as applications. Download an entry form from the Indian High Commission, bring along two passport photos and the correct cash. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months. If you have your airline ticket, bring it along too just in case. Turn up at least an hour before opening times (8.30am to 1pm weekdays) to be at the front of the queue and you should be done by lunch. Check online for holiday closing hours - the Commission enjoys plentiful UK and Indian festivals…
What visa do you need?
Ask for the standard tourist visa. It's a 6-month multi-entry affair which costs £30, and is valid from the date the visa is issued, rather than the date you arrive in the country. All the details are at http://www.hcilondon.org/visaindx.htm

20 Augusta StreetAlternatively, if you're strapped for time, there are several specialist visa agencies who'll do all the legwork for you. We recommend Travcour - very reliable and experienced. Charge is a reasonable £30 including postage (plus the visa fee), which saves a train up to London.
